The Orlando Children’s Health Project (OCHP)-Teen Xpress’ mission is to positively impact the quality of life of underserved youth by providing access to medical, behavioral, case management, and ancillary healthcare services. The program partners with the Orange County School System to serve middle and high schools with the highest rates of poverty, academic underachievement and minority student enrollment. It utilizes a mobile medical clinic to provide adolescents with year-round access to health services at selected school sites and through community outreach programs.

Many of OCHP’s patients face health challenges including chronic diseases, nutrition related illnesses, sexually transmitted diseases, unplanned pregnancies, and mental health issues. By providing comprehensive health and wraparound services regardless of ability to pay, the Orlando Children’s Health Project significantly reduces the unmet health needs of economically disadvantaged adolescents. Teen Xpress has a second mobile clinic purchased through a capital grant for school-based health from HRSA, which has allowed their case managers to expand services to other school sites.

The patient population of Teen Xpress is over 61% Black/African American and 36% white. The program targets adolescents: 76% of patients are between the ages of 12 and 19. Forty-four percent of patients are uninsured, 10% are uninsurable and 44% are enrolled in Medicaid.
