The Chicago Children’s Health Project (CCHP) provides services to children living inmedically underserved neighborhoods on Chicago’s South and West Sides, where student health compliance does not reach desired goals. The program brings students into compliance with basic health requirements by performing school physicals, sports physicals, immunizations and more. CCHP staff use these initial visits to make children and families aware of the program’s array of services.

Serving Communities in Need: Residents in the areas served by the CCHP have limited access to medical care despite their proximity to a hospital system; this is due to a lack of transportation, lack of health insurance, and/or limited knowledge of available resources. Children and families in these communities have histories of: chronic asthma, diabetes, obesity, elevated blood pressure, and teen pregnancy. Patients are largely African American (91%) and the majority of patients served are on Medicaid or are uninsured.
