The Phoenix Children’s Health Project (PCHP), also called the Crews ‘n Healthmobile, is based out of Phoenix Children’s Hospital, one of the largest free-standing children’s hospitals in the country. Together with community partners, the PCHP provides comprehensive services to homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth 24 years of age and under in urban communities across the Phoenix Metropolitan area. Currently, thousands of youth live on the streets of Phoenix, many in desperate need of medical treatment. Most face substantially increased risk of illness, injury and depression due to the hardships they endure. Most patients lack health insurance and have significant psychosocial barriers to accessing essential health care services.

Conditions frequently treated by the PCHP include acute illnesses, such as respiratory and ear infections, skin and eye disorders, asthma, sexually transmitted diseases, substance abuse, trauma, and mental health issues. By bringing comprehensive primary care directly to homeless and at-risk youth, the Phoenix Children’s Health Project provides an accessible, enhanced medical home to an extremely vulnerable population.

Serving Communities in Need: One hundred percent of patients seen by PCHP are homeless or unstably housed. The patient population of the PCHP is 39% Hispanic/Latino, 27% white, 26% African American, and 8% other or unknown. Approximately 15% of patients are uninsured.
